HELP: general -------------------------------------------------------------------------------As it was written so has it come to pass. Heaven's seals have been broken, theAbyss has opened, and from it - at the behest of that Beast whose number is thenumber of a man - have risen uncounted demons of Hell. Now, as we approach theEnd of Time, the world is over-run by Evil, Order is overthrown; but somewherein the Atlantic Ocean there remains one small island, far away, where the tidemay be turned, where the forces of Evil are vulnerable. The island consists of four baronies, each at war with the other. Maybesome day they will be united under the strong hand of some Adventurer, and willtogether form a seed of Holiness in a world run riot. Your aim, in this part of the Game, is to rid the land of Eastway of thedemons that infest it, and to earn a rank and gain that experience which will enable you to find the Passport which will take you to the Next World. The Recording Angel will increase your rank and potency when you have acquired sufficient points, either by finding Treasure and selling it at the Shop or offering it at an altar, or by killing demons. On the way, you will meet various characters, some useful, some downright bad. Remember: the World is in your hands. HELP: commands -------------------------------------------------------------------------------Most of the common Adventure commands are available, e.g. GET, LOAD, SAVE, TAKE, as well as others more usual in Multi-user games, such as CRY, FLEE, FORCE, JOIN, KISS, LAUGH, SLEEP, SUMMON, UNWATCH, WATCH, WHO. BR (for BRief) turns room-descriptions on and off. Type I for Inventory. Other abbreviated commands are EX(amine), G(et), K(ill), L(ook), R(un), SC(ore), T(ake), and WH(ere). In the Shop, you can BUY or SELL. Type FOOD to see what food is available. Less common commands are INJECT, OFFER, PLAY, RANKS, SILENCE, SLEEP, WIELD. TELL only works with Mug the slave. This useful little chap understands only the commands COME, STAY, FOLLOW, GIMME (object), and FIND (object). To issue an order to Mug, you TELL him, e.g. TELL MUG COME, or TELL MUG FIND SABRE. You can use lower-case or upper. To repeat a command, either press RETURN or ENTER alone, or follow it with two (or more) full-stops, e.g. SE.. will take you south-east twice. Multiple commands, e.g. TAKE,WEIGH,VALUE AXE, should be acceptable. You can use prepositions, such as FROM UNDER, FROM BEHIND, TO, INTO, e.g. GET IN BOAT, TAKE CHEESE FROM SACK. Ctrl/U erases a current line. To talk to a character, type a ' before what you have to say. E.g. 'Hello. HELP: movement -------------------------------------------------------------------------------Movement is achieved by typing the initial letters of the 8 compass points, i.e. N,S,E,W,NE,SE,SW,NW. IN and O (for OUT) work in some locations, as do U(up) and D(down). Don't bother to type GO. Movement commands can be chained, e.g. you can type something like N.E.NW.NW.IN, or you can input them singly, and either press RETURN to repeat the previous command, or follow the command with full stops; e.g. N... will take you north 3 times. When you've achieved a rank higher than Novice you will have the power to Join an object or mobile. The expense of this spell depends on how much weight you are carrying. If you are wearing boots, you can Run in them, but they may take you where you don't want to go! You may be tempted to swim in the river, the stream, or the sea. Beware, the currents are strong hereabouts. If - during a fight - you Flee, then there is no way of telling, in your panic,in which direction you will go. HELP: Ranks points max. objects max. weight -------------------------------------------------------------------------------Adventurer 0 4 3000 Charlatan 3000 6 4500 Mystic 7800 8 6000 Novice 20200 10 7500 Monk 52700 14 10000 Deacon 137000 16 14000 Summoner 256000 18 18000 Chaplain 448000 20 24000 Exorcist 708000 22 36000 Inquisitor 1000000 24 48000 On attaining the rank of Mystic, you will be empowered to cast a spell of WHERE; Monk, JOIN; Summoner, SUMMON; Exorcist, FORCE. HELP: Hints ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Weapons are only useful in a fight if you're WIELDing them. Watch your strength. Your ability to fight, to steal, and to resist attempts at theft by others partly depends on it. To restore your strength, EAT or DRINK something. There is a bell somewhere in the Game, which, if rung, will effect a Reset, i.e. you retain your score and rank, but the objects and mobiles are reset to their initial positions. This is useful - and can be highly profitable - especially when you find yourself stuck; if, for example, your strength is low, there is one powerful demon left in an inaccessible spot, and you've eaten all the food. But BEWARE, it can be fatal to attempt this! Try giving objects to the mobiles. They may give you a hint. When stealing, if you fail the first time, keep trying! I hope you like stew.
